김승구(1979~)는 상명대학교 사진학과를 졸업하고 2012년 한국예술종합학교 조형예술과에서 석사 학위를 취득했다. 그는 오늘날 인간과 자연, 또는 인간과 인간이 조화를 이루면서 공존하는 방법에 대해 주목한다. 공존의 방법에 대한 고찰은 현대 사회와 뗄 수 없는 환경의 변화에 대한 관심으로 이어져 대기 관측으로까지 확장되었다. 그는 대형 카메라를 사용하여 사진의 기록성과 현장감을 극대화시키고자 한다. 대표 연작으로 〈Better Days〉, 〈밤섬〉, 〈Riverside〉 등이 있다. 2018년에는 제11회 KT&G 상상마당 ‘올해의 최종 작가’, 제13회 일우사진상 출판 부문에서 ‘올해의 주목할 만한 작가’로 선정된 바 있다. 푸쉬킨 주립 박물관, 국립현대미술관, 시카고 현대사진미술관, 경기도 미술관, 고은사진미술관 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

Seunggu KIM received his BFA from Sangmyung University in Fine Art Photography and MFA from Korea National University of Arts(KARTS). He keeps an eye on the coexisting ways of humans and nature or humans and humans. Thoughts about the coexisting has led his interest to the environmental change and expanded to the act of observing air condition, which is inseparable from the today’s society. He tries to enhance the recordability and realism of photography by using a large format camera. Some of his well-recognized series include Better Days, Bam Islet, and Riverside. KIM was named as the ‘Final Artist of the Year’ at the 11th SKOPF and ‘Remarkable Artist of the Year’ at publishing category of 13th Ilwoo Photography Award. KIM’s works are in the collection of many art institutions, including the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Bank, the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and the GoEun Photo Museum.
